This text discusses the development of a system that can automatically generate high-quality audiobooks from online e-books. The system leverages neural text-to-speech technology to create and release thousands of open-license audiobooks from the Project Gutenberg e-book collection. Users can customize the audiobook's speaking speed, style, emotional intonation, and even choose a desired voice using a small amount of sample audio. The project has contributed over five thousand open-license audiobooks and offers an interactive demo for users to create their own customized audiobooks. Automatic audiobook creation is much faster, cheaper, and more consistent, although it has historically been limited by the robotic nature of text-to-speech systems and the challenge of determining what text should not be read aloud.
